Are You Still Monitoring Legionella Risk Manually?

Legionella Risk Monitoring for Healthy Water in Buildings

LPRS and SPICA have developed a unique solution, "eRIC & Devicepoint™ for Healthy Water", to tackle the huge risk associated with Legionella in public buildings, with a focus on healthcare facilities. Traditional manual monitoring techniques are costly and inefficient. Together, LPRS and SPICA are connecting “Healthy Water” monitoring devices to the internal water pipes of buildings which send real-time temperature and water flow data to a Devicepoint™ dashboard. Legionlla risk assessment need not be a manual, resource draining process. Our solutions allow lanlords to prevent and control this Legionella risk in buildings.

eRIC & Devicepoint™ for Healthy Water

Lower Cost

40-60% lower cost than traditional manual methods. Simple OpEx subscription model.

Better Safety

Real-time data provides a much more accurate and complete picture of the pipe system behaviour and can alert people to the risk of Legionella rapidly. Readings are extended from the schedule in place to 24/7.

Increased Accuracy

Remote monitoring reduces risk and human error associated with manual monitoring which requires someone to accurately read and note a temperature value, and then subsequently incorporate the results into a written report.

Proactive

Constant real-time temperature data allows proactive management of Legionella risk.

The Challenge

Health and safety legislation mandates that employers and people in control of premises must take appropriate steps to mitigate and deal with risks associated with Legionella bacteria. Fundamental elements of an effective control method for Legionella include:

  • Avoiding water temperatures that favour the growth of Legionella and other micro-organisms.
  • Ensuring that water does not stagnate anywhere in the pipe system.
  • Keeping accurate records.

A critical element of the control regime involves monitoring the temperature of water at certain points of the pipe system - this is currently a costly, largely manual and error-prone activity.

The Solution

We attach small temperature sensors to the surface of hot, cold and blend water pipes at specified points in the water system including sentinel outlets, TMVs (Thermostatic Mixing Valves), calorifiers, storage tanks and so on. These sensors constantly measure pipe temperature and transmit real time sensor information to a Devicepoint™ dashboard without the need to send an engineer to site. All data is stored and analysed in real-time, allowing the platform to proactively alert the appropriate staff members of risks, identify potentially stagnant sections of the pipe system and produce accurate monthly reports.

The easy to use in-browser dashboard provides analytics and reporting with workflow alerts to allow rapid management of this widespread health risk.

The Benefits

A monthly two minute snapshot of pipe temperature does not provide a complete picture of the pipe system behaviour. In some cases tests fail to detect a Legionella risk since the incubation period in certain conditions is only 10 days. Below are some of the benefits of our eRIC & Devicepoint™ solution.

  • 40-60% lower cost than traditional, manual methods.
  • Real-time data provides a much more accurate and complete picture of the pipe system behaviour and can alert people to the risk of Legionella rapidly.
  • Readings are extended from the schedule in place to 24/7.
  • Reduces risk and human error associated with manual monitoring which requires someone to accurately read and note a temperature value, and then subsequently incorporate the results into a written report.

Getting Started

LPRS’ eRIC radio module with SPICA’s Devicepoint™ solution as an approach to monitoring Legionella in public buildings exceeds regulatory requirements whilst also offering huge cost savings and increased accuracy. Devicepoint™ for Healthy Wateris a much more efficient risk management tool, as part of a Legionella control regime. It constantly monitors the temperature of sections of pipe work, eliminates all of the manual work of reading and recording pipe temperature measurements, and provides a vastly superior picture of likely risks and pipe system usage.

Our solution can integrate directly into Building/Asset Management systems such as Maximo, as well as other enterprise applications e.g. SAP.

LPRS and SPICA can set up field trials within a matter of days.
